Raised near Baltimore, Maryland, Peter Riesett earned his BFA in photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1998. He continued his artistic training at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where he earned an MFA in 2002. His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Houston, Lithuania, and Syria and his work resides in the permanent collection at The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, as well as various private collections. Pete was recognized as a winner of the Flash Forward 2007: Emerging Photographers Competition, through The Magenta Foundation. He's been awarded 'Honorable Mention' for his book of the series Testament by Blurb's Photography Book Now competition in both 2008 and 2009. Pete's work has been included in the Humble Arts Foundation publication, The Collector's Guide To Emerging Art Photography, as well as the PRC Juried Publication, juried by Dana Faconti of Blind Spot. Most recently, Pete was selected as a winner of 10 BEST 10 International Competition in NYC and also received 'Honorable Mention' in the Prix De La Photographie, Paris (Px3). An upcoming exhibition and book from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, entitled WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath, will include his image “WWII” from the series Testament. Riesett currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
